Patamon

Voice Actor: Matsumoto Miwa (JP) / Laura Summer (ENG)

Relationship with Daisuke & Ken

Takeru is one of Daisuke and Ken’s teammates in the new group of Chosen Children. Since he was also a part of the original group, along with Hikari, he is able to impart knowledge of the Digital World and their past adventures to Daisuke, their new leader. He has a friendly rival sort of relationship with Daisuke, who sees him as his main competition for Hikari’s friendship and attention. He is initially opposed to Ken joining the team, wondering if he truly has changed, and once he has joined them, still sometimes frightens Ken with his “unforgivable” stance toward evildoers. Nevertheless, he does accept and forgive him in the end.

Important Moments with Daisuke & Ken

“Hikari’s Memory,” 02 #7: First big bonding episode for Daisuke and Takeru, where Hikari gets trapped in the Digital World and the two of them team up to go save her. From the beginning, Daisuke has been jealous of how close Takeru and Hikari are, and in this episode he finds out they even have matching Digimon in Angemon and Angewomon, much to his displeasure. Takeru learns in this episode that Daisuke is fundamentally harmless and just trying to look cool, and lets him have his small “victories” with Hikari.

“Blue Lightning, Lighdramon,” 02 #11: In this episode Daisuke and Takeru get into a fight over whether or not they should fight Taichi’s Agumon while he’s being controlled by the Kaiser. Daisuke is hesitant to hurt a friend, but Takeru insists there is no other choice. He thinks they’ll be able to remove the Evil Spiral, but Daisuke is worried that the only way to do that is to destroy the Digimon it’s attached to. They get into a physical grapple and the rest of their group tries to stop them, but Taichi and Yamato tell them to let them fight, because they used to fight a lot, too, and it only brought them closer. They fight again later, when Daisuke refuses to attack the Kaiser for fear of harming Patamon, who has just been captured too. This time, Miyako breaks them up.

“The Synthetic Monster, Chimeramon,” 02 #19: This is the infamous Takeru-Kaiser fight episode in which Takeru sneaks into the Digimon Kaiser’s base and fights one-on-one with Ken. He first mocks Ken’s dramatic speech about controlling evil, telling him he has no idea what he’s talking about and he should grow up and stop playing king of the world, causing Ken to break down yelling “INSECTS” over and over and whip Takeru in the face. Takeru is unaffected by the act of violence and reacts with his own, tackling and beating some sense into Ken before being called away to fight Chimairamon with the others.

“Defend the Holy Point” & “Assault! BlackWarGreymon,” 02 #34-35: In episode #34, Takeru gives a speech in which he condemns those who use the forces of darkness to change and conquer the world, clearly referencing Ken’s creation of Chimeramon as the Digimon Kaiser as well as Devimon, calling this act “unforgivable.” Ken is visibly distressed by this and both Iori and Daisuke look at him. Daisuke, who is currently Jogressed with Ken, tells him to stay focused, lest he throw off their connection. In episode #35 this is referenced again, and Ken attempts to leave before Daisuke stops him and invites him to sleep over.

“The Gigantic Ultimate, Qinglongmon,” 02 #37: In this episode, Takeru exhibits that he’s fully accepted Ken into the team by handing him a steamed bun while they’re eating at a Chinese restaurant in the Digital World. It’s a small gesture, but seems to mean a lot to Ken, who has been extra wary of Takeru since his “unforgivable” speech in episode #34.

Relationship with Daisuke & Ken

Hikari is one of Daisuke and Ken’s teammates in the new group of Chosen Children. Since she was also a part of the original group, along with Takeru, she is able to impart knowledge of the Digital World and their past adventures to Daisuke, their new leader. Daisuke has a hopeless crush on her and is initially jealous of Takeru’s close relationship with her, constantly vying for her attention. Hikari either completely ignores his crush or uses it to her advantage, subtly influencing him to get what she wants. In the second half of the series, after Jogressing with Ken, Daisuke’s crush diminishes significantly and is no longer mentioned. Despite being disturbed and hurt by the Digimon Kaiser’s crimes and initially rejecting Daisuke’s efforts to let the reformed Ken join the team, she is one of the first to accept and treat him as a teammate after Daisuke and Miyako. The two of them share a mysterious connection to the Dark Ocean, as they are the only ones who have traveled there alone.

Important Moments with Daisuke & Ken

“Hikari’s Memory,” 02 #7: In this episode, Daisuke and Takeru team up to rescue Hikari when she gets trapped in the Digital World. They both feel very guilty for accidentally leaving her behind, and jump at the chance to rescue her, putting aside their differences and working together to do so.

“The Storm of Love, Silphymon,” 02 #31: In this episode, Hikari, Ken, and Miyako are all transported to the Dark Ocean. Hikari first hears Ken crying out in the forest and runs to his side. She helps him up and together with Miyako they accidentally pass into the Dark World and scream simultaneously when they see the Ocean. Ken finds out that Hikari has also been to the Dark Ocean before, revealing a mysterious connection between the two. This episode also shows Hikari yet again rejecting Daisuke’s crush on her by choosing to search the forest with Miyako, who becomes her Jogress partner by the end of the episode.

Hawkmon

ホークモン

Voice Actor: Touchika Kouichi (JP) / Neil Kaplan (ENG)

Relationship with Daisuke & Ken

Miyako is one of Daisuke and Ken’s teammates in the new group of Chosen Children. As the most outgoing member of the team next to Daisuke, she tends to give a lot of the orders despite him being the official leader, including giving the “Digital Gate, open! Chosen Children, let’s roll!” battle cry when they enter the Digital World. She and Daisuke treat each other like bickering siblings, always picking on each other but still clearly caring for each other and enjoying each other’s company a lot. She initially has a crush on Ken before she finds out he is the Digimon Kaiser, and later is the first to accept him into the team after Daisuke, though her straightforward nature sometimes makes him uncomfortable.

Important Moments with Daisuke & Ken

“Loneliness of the Digimon Kaiser,” 02 #08: Miyako is revealed to have a celebrity crush on local genius boy Ichijouji Ken. She agrees to go to Daisuke’s soccer game against him in the hopes of seeing him and getting his autograph. When at first he doesn’t appear, she is very angry and regrets coming to the game at all. She is thrilled to see him later and very jealous that Daisuke got to shake his hand, almost stooping so low as to shake Daisuke’s to forge some sort of vicarious connection to him.

“Knight of the Skies, Aquilamon,” 02 #25: In the most important episode for Miyako and Ken’s development, Miyako struggles to believe that Ken has changed and accept him into the team. She asks her family for advice and even debates emailing him but can’t reconcile the fact that he recently destroyed ThunderBallmon in the previous episode. But when a relentless Golemon attempts over and over to destroy a dam and flood a city of innocent Digimon, she is forced to consider that Ken might have done the right thing, and when she realizes that the Digimon he destroyed was indeed a Dark Tower and not a real Digimon, she forgives Ken and accepts his help, unlocking Hawkmon’s evolution into Aquilamon.

“The Storm of Love, Silphymon,” 02 #31: In this episode, Hikari, Ken, and Miyako are all transported to the Dark Ocean while looking for Tailmon’s Holy Ring. When they realize they’re lost, Miyako is delighted to see Daisuke and devastated when she runs straight through him. Miyako at first cannot see the Ocean that Hikari and Ken are talking about and continues looking for the ring, a search which ends in her and Hikari falling off a cliff and realizing that what Miyako had believed was the Holy Ring was actually a broken Dark Ring. Once rescued, she repeatedly puts her foot in her mouth while talking to Ken, making light of his time as the Kaiser and making him visibly uncomfortable.

アルマジモン

Relationship with Daisuke & Ken

Iori is one of Daisuke and Ken’s teammates in the new group of Chosen Children. His serious nature conflicts with Daisuke’s laid-back and outgoing personality, and Daisuke often doesn’t seem to know what to make of him. Daisuke has moments where he dismisses Iori due to his young age, such as telling him “Shut up, kid” in a heated moment in episode #7, but apologizes immediately when Iori sternly tells him not to talk to him like that. Later on Daisuke is shown to respect him, even calling him “Iori-sama” once when he rescues the team in episode #16. Iori’s relationship with Ken is even more complicated, as Iori is the last to fully accept Ken into the team after his time as the Digimon Kaiser, not sure if he can forgive him for his former crimes. In the end, however, like all the others, he finally does accept Ken as a comrade.

Important Moments with Daisuke & Ken

“Warrior of the Earth, Ankylomon,” 02 #24: After defeating Ken as the Digimon Kaiser, the Chosen Children start their efforts to rebuild the Digital World. When Iori and the newly-evolved Ankylomon are attacked by a rogue ThunderBallmon, Ken and Stingmon swoop in to his rescue, killing ThunderBallmon in the process. Iori is very uncomfortable thinking that Ken has killed someone to save him, further complicating his feelings on Ken.

“Bug Charmer’s Trap!!” & “Archnemon, the Spider Woman’s Mistake,” 02 #28-29: Now that Ken is officially part of the team after the reveal that the Digimon he killed was actually a transformed Dark Tower in episode #25, Iori still struggles to accept him as a comrade, feeling that he owes him a debt for saving him in episode #24. He and Sabmarimon save Ken from drowning in a giant washing machine, temporarily settling the score, but then Ken and Daisuke free him from a Dokugamon’s web. In the end, Iori still believes he owes Ken a debt and vows to repay him.

“The Dark Ultimate, BlackWarGreymon,” 02 #30: In this episode, Iori and Ken are still on uncomfortable terms. Despite their Digimon getting along, they aren’t talking to each other. Daisuke and Miyako both attempt to get them to work together, resulting in the two of them getting angry at them and Ken deciding that he is disrupting the team dynamic and should go off on his own again. Miyako later has to track him down and bring him back to Jogress with Daisuke when BlackWarGreymon arrives.

“Holy Night, the Digimon Great Reunion!,” 02 #38: In this episode, after defeating BlackWarGreymon and having his black and white worldview challenged in the process, Iori finally officially accepts Ken as part of the team by accepting an invitation to his Christmas party.
