Description

Daisuke is 02‘s “goggle boy,” which is made more apparent when Taichi gives him the original goggles. Although he is often rash and stubborn, he possesses empathy and dedication, a firm ability to delegate, and heartfelt loyalty to and concern for his team, things Taichi had to learn to become a good leader. Daisuke is courageous and determined no matter how unlikely their success, and his optimism and his belief in his team carries the Chosen Children through many difficult situations. While Daisuke does not possess book smarts, he understands people on an emotional level, and he is quite skilled at soccer.

Biography

In August 1999, Daisuke and his family were held prisoner by Vamdemon at Tokyo Big Sight. Daisuke would have potentially met Tailmon there as a possible Eighth Child, though that’s unlikely since he doesn’t seem to recognize Tailmon upon meeting her at the beginning of 02. The Motomiya family would have been put to sleep with the rest of the prisoners and become part of Vamdemon’s army until the eight Chosen Children defeated him. Sometime during these events, Daisuke saw a boy wearing goggles and riding a giant dinosaur and was determined to become stronger and fight evil Digimon like Taichi did.

Daisuke joined Odaiba Elementary‘s soccer club before or during third grade, as that is part of how he knows Taichi well. He considers Taichi his senpai and tries to emulate him, even going so far as to find a pair of goggles to wear.

In fourth grade, Daisuke was in the same class as Taichi’s younger sister Hikari and knew her well enough he considered her a good friend. His feelings toward Hikari can be interpreted as either romantic or friendly, though if he has romantic feelings for her, Hikari in no way reciprocates.

Daisuke does not seem to have many friends when you first meet him at the start of fifth grade. He is pleased to learn Hikari is in his class again, but upon realizing that Takeru knows her well and has a history with her, Daisuke is instantly jealous. He and Takeru develop a sort of rivalry, though Daisuke views the situation with more vitriol than Takeru does.

Throughout the first half of the series, Daisuke and V-mon become fast friends, and Daisuke receives the Digimentals of Courage and Friendship. During this time, Daisuke’s relationships with Hikari, Takeru, Miyako, and Iori develop, and the group slowly comes together during their fight against the Digimon Kaiser, a corrupted Chosen Child.

The Chosen Children come face to face with the Kaiser in person when Odaiba Elementary‘s soccer team plays a game against Tamachi FC team, led by the famous prodigy Ichijouji Ken. When Ken is late, Daisuke’s team manages to score a goal, but Ken arrives during halftime and quickly turns the game, though Daisuke prevents him from scoring a tenth goal with a sliding tackle that injures his ankle. Later, in the Digital World, Ken retaliates as the Kaiser by humiliating and degrading Daisuke, and during the fight, the injury is reopened, prompting Ken to reveal himself as the Digimon Kaiser.

During the final battle against the Digimon Kaiser and his synthetic Digimon Chimeramon, when everyone else wants to give up, Daisuke moves forward. Wormmon leads him to the engine room, where the source of the power is revealed to be the Digimental of Miracles. V-mon evolves to Magnamon, but he isn’t powerful enough to defeat Chimeramon until Wormmon sacrifices himself to save Ken. Daisuke and the others help Ken realize Digimon are living creatures, not just computer data, and Ken’s Kaiser persona is no more.

The group helps rebuild the Digital World, and V-mon and the other partner Digimon evolve to Adult level, XV-mon. When Ken starts helping in the Digital World, Daisuke is the first to offer him friendship, and that continues when they face an Okuwamon and Jogress-evolve to Paildramon. Afterward, Daisuke and Ken slowly become best friends.

On Christmas Eve, Daisuke and the group attend Ken’s Christmas party, which ends abruptly when they have to take care of rogue Digimon and destroy a Dark Tower. The next day, Paildramon uses the power of Qinglongmon’s DigiCore to evolve to Imperialdramon: Dragon Mode, who takes them all around the world to return lost Digimon to the Digital World.

When they return to Japan, they fight a group run by Demon, and Imperialdramon uses the power from the other Digimon to evolve to Fighter Mode. Demon wants to take Ken for his Dark Seed, but Archnemon and Mummymon show up with a truck full of kids to lure Ken inside Oikawa Yukio‘s truck. Daisuke chases after them, first via car with Kido Shuu, then via Lighdramon. He, V-mon, and Wormmon rescue Ken, and the group must fight Demon, which requires Ken to open a gate to the World of Darkness with his Dark D-3.

The group follows Oikawa through the gate at Hikarigaoka, but they wind up in the World of Dreams, where it is revealed Oikawa has been possessed by BelialVamdemon. The powerful Digimon sends the group into an illusion that shows their greatest desires, but Daisuke is unaffected as he is completely focused on defeating BelialVamdemon. Instead, he taps into the power of the dream world to split V-mon into his different forms and helps bring the others back to reality.

When the group is free of their illusions, they blast BelialVamdemon into the Digital World and use the power of positive thinking and the light from their Digivices to power Imperialdramon: Fighter Mode’s Giga Death cannon to defeat him. Daisuke tells everyone his dream of running a noodle shop.

Between Digimon Adventure 02 & tri.

On Valentine’s Day 2003, Daisuke is upset that no girls give him chocolate and tries to win over girls’ attentions by imitating some of the guys he looks up to, including Yamato, Koushirou, and Ken’s “bad boy” look as the Digimon Kaiser. Ken is able to convince him to snap out of it, and the group mixes up their D-Terminals and their Digimon Armor-evolve to different forms. In the end, Daisuke is still upset that no girls are interested in him.

A month later, during the spring break between fifth and sixth grade, Daisuke and Ken race around Tokyo, especially near Shibuya Station, to gather Kuramon and send them to Koushiro. When Omegamon and Diablomon arrive in Tokyo Bay, they have to run all the way to Rainbow Bridge (until Jou acquires them bicycles) to join the fight. Imperialdramon: Fighter Mode is not enough to defeat Armagemon, but Omegamon gives them their power, transforming Imperialdramon into Paladin Mode, who is able to defeat Armagemon. Afterward, everyone is ready to take a nap, and Daisuke and Ken, along with their Digimon, curl up to sleep together.

In spring 2003, at the start of sixth grade, Daisuke is made a permanent member of the Odaiba Elementary soccer club as a center forward. During this time, Daisuke is determined to grow taller, hoping to surpass Takeru’s height and even reach Ken’s, by drinking a lot of milk. Obviously, this does not work.

The following summer, Mimi invites Daisuke to spend the summer with her and Wallace in New York City, and Daisuke is happy to get away from his particularly bad summer. They wind up in a strange dimension similar to New York City in wintertime, and they meet a nameless girl whom Daisuke dubs “Nat-chan.” Later, they learn that Nat-chan is actually a Digimon, and Daisuke tries to save her only for Nat-chan to destroy herself to protect him. When the strange wintry world disappears, they realize it was the result of Nat-chan’s solitude mixing with Daisuke’s frustrations and regrets over his horrible summer.

Daisuke, along with Ken, Miyako, and Iori, are defeated by Alphamon, one of Yggdrasill‘s henchmen and considered missing by the government agency dealing with the Digimon sightings. The group is held prisoner in tubes in an underground chamber by Yggdrasill with assistance from Himekawa Maki. The chamber is discovered by Taichi and Nishijima Daigo in the final movie, and the group is returned to Earth and hospitalized.

Daisuke attends high school and graduates before starting at a vocational school. He also starts working as an apprentice at a ramen shop. Sometime in these five years, Daisuke returns the goggles Taichi gives him at the start of 02.

Daisuke is in his first year at a vocational school, and he also works as an apprentice at a ramen shop. Daisuke uses the Digital Gates to travel and taste ramen from all over the world, often bringing Ken (and occasionally the rest of their friends) along for the ride.
